The Project on International Security, Commerce, and Economic Statecraft (PISCES) was founded in 2012 with the goal of using expertise at the University at Albany, SUNY to help combat global nonproliferation threats posed by weapons of mass destruction (WMDs) and strategic technologies.
The PISCES team specializes in helping governments and industry adopt and implement strategic trade control (STC), sanctions, and proliferation financial control policies to regulate commerce involving dual-use goods.
The PISCES team includes eight professionals with backgrounds in policy, political science, law, industry, and financial crime prevention. PISCES team members have worked with the U.S. State Department dating back to the early 2000s to prevent global proliferation.
The PISCES team has been a leading global capacity builder in aiding the adoption of measures to prevent proliferation.
PISCES has received 100 awards and extensions totaling over $25 million from funders that include the State Department’s Office of Export Control Cooperation (ECC) and Office of Threat Reduction (CTR). PISCES has also worked with the U.S. Department of Energy’s International Nonproliferation Export Control Program (INECP).
